Ex Barclays bank employee sentenced for theft to fund gambling addiction

A woman in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to a period of two years for her involvement of theft from her employer Barclays Bank. The theft occurred in order to fuel this woman’s addiction to gambling, which was carried out online. A total of £127,400 was stolen before she was caught.

Great Britain has seen a number of cases of this nature recently. The employee, Julia Finney said that she took the money due to her gambling addiction that was created online. While the casinos provide players the opportunity for self-exclusion Finney chose not to take that route instead she stole to feed her habit.

The presiding judge in the case stated to the accused that her actions were a complete breach in the trust that was placed upon her as an employee of the bank. The fact you undertook sophisticated measures in an attempt to hide your criminal actions is disturbing. You have failed to provide the court with a reasonable explanation why you acted in this way other than for reasons of gambling.
